Closed mindedness

Closed mindedness (probably the most awkward of all the words) is right. Open mindedness is wrong. We close our minds to some possibilities because we know those possibilities are destructive. Sin is destructive. We close our minds to the possibility of sin because sin destroys us.
If we do not close our minds, we do not have standards of right and wrong. These standards are what maintain our cohesion as individuals, as families, and as a society. There are no alternative standards of morality. There is only Scripture.
We do not exist to please ourselves. We do not exist to pursue every pleasure that flitters across the fragile bow of our conscience. The pursuit of pleasure for its own sake, of whatever new sensation, of whatever forbidden relationship that catches our attention, is not what will bring happiness. Closing our minds to sin and opening our minds to trust in God will do that.
